.CR2 File

The cr2 file extension seems to be mainly known for its use for one of the digital RAW image formats used by Canon digital cameras.

The cr2 file contains captured photo in Canon RAW image format version 2.0, which itself is based on the TIFF image standard.

Except for the digital photograph, the cr2 raw file also includes all the additional metadata information about the time, position and other conditions (light, exposure, colors etc.) recorded when the picture was taken.

Files with cr2 file extension are in most cases digital RAW photographs captured by some of the more recent models of Canon professional digital cameras.

How to open:

Canon provides a free software called Digital Photo Professional that can be used to work with *.cr2 files. Except for Canon software, many photo and even standard graphics editors support CR2 format and can be used to edit it. However, it is best to use professional photo editing tools.

How to convert:

Programs that can open and edit raw *.cr2 files usually have the option to export or save them to another file format, such as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, PSD or many others.
