What is an .7Z.003 file?

The 7z.003 file extension is associated with 7-Zip. Its one part of a multi-volume compressed 7-ZIP archive. The extension is actually only 003, the .7z is added to the file name of the archive file to distinguish it as 7z multi-volume compressed file archive.

7-ZIP is the native format of 7-Zip archiver. Like other archives, 7-ZIP files are data containers, which store one or several files in a compressed form. Compressed archives are common on internet, especially on sharing or torrent sites.

7-Zip does use the following sequence:

.7z.001 for first volume
.7z.002, 7z.003, 7z.004 ....etc. for any additional volumes

How to convert:

It is not possible to convert only one part of 7-ZIP multi-volume archive. Only complete 7-ZIP archive can be converted in to another archive or compression format. The easiest way how to convert complete 7-ZIP multi-volume archive is to decompress the 7-ZIP archive with the use of Z-Zip and repack the content with another compression or archive application of your choice.

How to solve problems with 7Z.003 files

Associate the 7Z.003 file extension with the correct application. On :
Windows: Right click on any 7Z.003 file and then click "Open with" > "Choose another app". Now select another program and check the box "Always use this app to open *.7Z.003 files". Mac: Right click (or Ctrl-click) the 7Z.003 file, then click "Open with" > "Other...". Then choose another program and check the "Always Open With" box. Linux: Right click on the file, and select "Open with" and choose another program. iPhone: Tap the file. Then open the Files app Files app. There long-press on the file, then release your finger. You will see a black menu bar. Then tap "Share" and select an app. Android: Tap the Settings icon on your smartphone, then tap on the Apps section. There tap the Options icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen to change the default apps.
